Sis. Ida, daughter of the late Charlie and Sarah Brown Ferguson was born on November 5, 1922, in Quincy, Florida.  She was educated in the public schools of Gadsden County.  Ida was baptized at an early age and joined their family church, Bear Creek Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. She later moved to Jacksonville, Florida and was united in holy matrimony to the late Alton Armstead on September 13, 1945.  They were married for 52 years until her husband’s untimely death on April 1, 1997.

Sis. Ida resided in Jacksonville, Florida for over 74 years, where she held membership with St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church and later moved her membership to West Union Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor A. F. Cummings, Pastor S. Washington and Pastor Leroy Kelly where she served faithfully. Ida worked in Sunday School and on the Usher Board.  She was an avid Seamstress and sewed for not only her family, but for many churches, neighbors, and friends.  Once her children were of age she then sought employment outside of the home with the City of Jacksonville and the Duval County School Board until retirement in 1986.  Ida was a kind and loving Woman of God who also enjoyed working in her yard growing various flowers and vegetables, being a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, neighbor and friend.

On February 4, 2019, an angel from Heaven came to take Sis. Ida Mae Armstead to her home in glory, where she could rest from her labor.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Alton Armstead; daughter, Bessie; son, Charles; siblings, Tiness, Ruby and David.  She was the last child of the Ferguson’s in her generation.

Sis. Ida leaves to cherish her precious memories, loving and devoted daughters, Jacquelyn A. Coleman (Raymond L.) and Teresa A. Sumpter (main caregiver); grandchildren, Sheryl and Anthony Jones, Raymond Jr., Vonetta C. Wilcox, Andre, Kennard and Travis Sumpter; great-granddaughters, Arian, Nysa (Ali), Nia, Mark II, Saveon, Dredan, Kamora, Niyla, Ali Jr., and Charlise; sister-in-laws, Mamie Jones and Martha Armstead; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousin; special friends, Deacon and Sis Emory Jackson, Sis. At Matthew, Jesus taught his followers to pray for God's Kingdom to come and his will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. Revelation 14:1&4 assures us that faithful Christians whom God has chosen will rule with Jesus over the earth. Genesis 1:28 tells us that God's purpose was for our first parents to have children, to make the whole earth a paradise, and to take care of the animals. Psalm 37:29 lets us know that God's purpose has not changed. He assures us that the righteous, obedient, children of God will possess the earth and live forever upon it. By exercising faith in the ransom sacrifice of Jesus will God's Messianic Kingdom rule over the earth fulfilling God's purpose making everlasting life possible for all humans to live forever on God's restored paradise earth. (Revelation 21:3-4) Find comfort in knowing that everlasting life in heaven or on earth is possible to Ms. Ida!

Teresa - Please accept my sincere condolences for the loss of your Mother. From what I've heard about her, she was an amazing Lady. I'm truly sorry for the hole you have in your heart now and I will be praying for you in the days to come. She has fought the fight, and she has run her race. Now she has received her reward with the Almighty . I am extending my deepest sympathy and praying that your faith will give you strength you need in this time. May God comfort you and give you peace . Love you my Sister.

My sincere condolences to your family. I just wanted to share with you the Bible's promise of the resurrection . Jesus said at John 11:25, 'I am the resurrection and the life'. Jehovah has granted his son Jesus Christ the power not only to resurrect the dead but also to impart eternal life. At Revalation 1:18, Jesus calls himself “the living one,” who has “the keys of death and of the Grave.” Jesus is our hope for the living and the dead. He promised to open up the tombs and give the dead life, either in the heavens as his 'Corulers' or 'Everlasting Life' on earth ruled by his heavenly government.—Joh 5:28, 29; 2Pe 3:13. So when your dear love one return to life, on this earth in perfect health wouldn't this be a grand reunion. This promise is a gift from Jehovah for all to read in their copy of the Bible at John 3:16, John 17:3, Romans 6:23 and Revelation 21:4.
