Obituary

Queen (Queenie) Esther Roberts Mitchell was born December 17, 1966 to the late Thomas Roberts, Sr. and Thelma Brown in Jacksonville, Florida. She attended the Duval County Public School Systems, graduating from William M. Raines High School. Queenie was employed by I.M. Sulzbacher Center for the homeless, 13 years before she retired in 2010 due to her illness. Queen had a gift to help those in need, that’s why the residents at I.M. Sulzbacher would confide in her while they stayed there during a difficult time in their own lives. They would always have nice stories to tell about how she was good to them during their stay at the center.

Queenie also known for giving out great advice would help friends and family members in need. She will be remembered for her warm beautiful smile, good heart, sense of humor and being out spoken. Queenie inherited her name “Queen” from her late maternal grandmother, Queen Esther Foster. She loved her name “Queen” which she took pride in filling it out and living up to great standards. She was a true Queen in the eyes of those who loved her. In 2008 she bought a home, where she hosted family gatherings for holiday’s, repasses and cook-outs in order to bring family and friends together. Queen also loved to go shopping and would purchase things to give away to family and friends if they needed it or to express her love. Queen was a great mother to her 4 beautiful daughters and grandchildren. Queen was preceded in death by her eldest sister, Mary Miller.

Queenie accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior some years ago. She always had a connection with God, which showed through her blessed life and strong soul. She was a great example of the Beauty and Grace of God.

Queenie leaves to cherish beautiful memories: the love of her life, of 30 years, her husband, Jerome Allen; daughters and son-in-laws, Joshia Woods (Joshua), Johnshae Butler (Andre), Leonda Davis (Sherman), Jerrica Riley (Dominique Sr.); grandchildren, Johnnhae Waddell, Ty’Yari Washington, Ro’Shaunna Simmons, Anzariah Butler, An’nesty Butler, her name sake, Queen Diam’ri Riley, Royalty Kirkland, Dominique Riley, Jr., Jah’Rico Riley; siblings, Thomas Roberts, Jr. and Brenda Roberts; brother-in-laws, Johnny Wright and Tom Cason; stepchildren, Vanessa Kirkland, John Stokes and Carjohntae Mitchell; her favorite cousins, Tanya Jones, Leatron Hill and Vincent Foster; best friends, Debra Townsend and Michelle Norris; favorite aunt, Linda Foster; goddaughter, Talisha Demps; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
